Dr. Rivers and the team at Somerset are fantastic! Our dog loved going into the office and getting to meet all the happy staff (even when shots were involved!) We have now moved from Ames, and finding a vet to compare with Somerset will be difficult!
I started taking my first dog here once I got him, and have always had a really great experience for the past two years until today. I showed up for the appointment time listed in my confirmation email, and was told I was not in the schedule. Furthermore, I was informed for the very first time that my dog had a "caution" notation on his file because he had growled during his physical exam earlier in the spring. It seems to me that a pet owner should be, at the very least, informed when a vet decides their family pet is a risk to the safely of professionally trained staff. Having a conversation about it would have been welcomed, as I would have been very happy to discuss any concerns with the vet or tech staff. Unfortunately, a great opportunity to partner together was missed.
You get what you pay for. Somerset can be a tick pricey, but there's no better place for veterinary care. We see Dr. Rivers, and she's friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to explain anything I'm unclear on. I highly recommend this clinic.
Amazing experience here! Very friendly and always willing to help even if you have a quick question over the phone. This is the only place I'll ever take my pets simply because they're so helpful and caring.
One morning I woke up to my cat having trouble breathing. All of the other vets in the area could not fit me in until late in the afternoon. When I called Somerset, they said they were booked as well - but they told me to come in anyway, and they found time to look at my cat almost immediately. The doctor & the staff were extremely professional, laid out the options honestly, and were extremely thoughtful when a difficult decision had to be made. It was an awful day but I am very grateful for having wound up at the Somerset Vet Hospital.
